The Amazing Walter

Howdy from Texas! My wife and I will be in Townsville for the Strand Ephemera. We arrive on the 25th of July and I will be carving a sandcastle for the first 5 days and will give workshops for 10 days during the Ephemera. we are members of “The Happy Band” at South Padre Island, Texas. We are primarily a ukelele band but also have a mandolin… we do an ecclectic assortment of music including some original tunes… we will have our ukes with us and would like to get together for jams or just meet other players in the area. Fun will be had.

Hi to all! I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas, our names
Catherine and Craig, we have a young daughter who takes a fancy to the Ukulele and therefore we would like to know, how young can you start teaching children and is there anyone in Townsville who enjoys and is able to teach.?

3 01 2016

Hi Catherine,
It’s never too early to learn ukulele. The instrument is small and manageable for little fingers.
As far as I know, however, there is no uke teacher for children in Townsville. I will put it out at the next meeting and let you know. Mike Jackson specializes in ukulele tutorials on Youtube and this might get you daughter started.
Warm regards Annie

Lucia Lasso

We are from Ecuador and my husband loves music. He plays guitar and is good at learning music. Before we go back to our country, we would like to buy one ukelele. Please, could you recommend us where can we find one here at Townsville?

3 01 2016

Hi Lucia
Why not come along to our gathering. We start up again on Tuesday 12th Jan at the West End Hotel, Ingham Road 6.30 p.m.
You will be made very welcome. We always have spare ukuleles and can take your husband through basic chords. “Arties” at 99 Charters Towers Road has range of ukuleles but I would suggest coming to a meeting and trying out a range of instruments first.
Hope this has helped.
Warm regards Annie

Jodie Gilmore

Hi,I have wanted to learn the Ukulele for years and my kids have just bought me one for Christmas! Eeekkk!!! Now I feel the need for lessons. I have zero music knowledge but would love to learn. Could I come to your next meeting ?
Kind regards

29 12 2017

Hi Jodie,
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, Jan. 9th at the West End Hotel Beer Garden. Beginners start at 6.30 pm – 7 pm then you can join into the regular group. No prior knowledge of music is needed as the mighty little uke is an easy instrument to pick up. You are going to need an electronic tuner for your uke. You can pick one up from “Arties” music store or look online…far cheaper.
There is a ton of info on YouTube but for a beginner I would recommend “Ukulele
Mike” Mike Lynch. His beginner tutorials are great.
Having said that, there is nothing like playing with a group of people, so hope to see you at our next meeting…..Cheers Annie
